FRIDAY FAB 40+ JOHN CORBETT

As a first for Eyecons, this week's Fab 40+ has a specific theme and one that is close to my heart. On Thursday, July 20th, my home state of West Virginia celebrated its Sesquicentennial and will be celebrating throughout the year.

This suggests that the state is quite young, but one must remember the 150 years before, when we were part of Virginia.

Hence today's choice is a fellow Mountain Stater, and one who always stirs hearts whether he is getting Northern Exposure or having Sex and the City...

JOHN CORBETT

John Joseph Corbett, Jr. was born May 9, 1961 in Wheeling, West Virginia. He struck out for Los Angeles and worked, ironically, as a steel laborer. An injury sidelined him and he decided to try acting. His first big acting role was playing Karen's hippie boyfriend in The Wonder Years. From there he was cast as the mellow DJ in the series Northern Exposure

LONG HAIR

One of John's more famous roles was as Nia Vardalos' new husband in the comedy My Big Fat Greek Wedding. The two had such great chemistry that he was cast as her beloved in her next film.

SHORT HAIR

SEX AND THE CITY
John would have another breakthrough role as Sarah Jessica Parker's rebound boyfriend Aiden in the classic series Sex and the City. So smooth and lovable was he that one would be hard pressed to find a fan who felt that she should have bounced him for Mr. Big.

SEXY IN THE CITY (OR ANYWHERE)

TROUBADOUR
John is not just a great actor, but a successful singer and songwriter. He has recorded and performed his own material, as well as written songs for the likes of Jason Aldean.

JUST PLAIN SEXY

Since 2002 John has dated the famously figured and beautiful Bo Derek. Many people think she is much older than him because her career peaked in the late 70s and early 80s, while his started in the 90s, but she is actually only five years older than him.

And thanks to xyzpdq for making John's videos available!

And one more time, Happy Birthday, West Virginia!

  1. Another great choice, Derek. I've really liked John since "Northern Exposure". I was hoping we would be seeing more of him on the "NCIS: LA" spinoff, "NCIS: Code Red", but that show has been scrapped.

I know putting out a blog takes a lot of time. I look forward to seeing whatever you are able to create.

    Happy Birthday WVA!

  3. There's something 'innocent' about John I've always liked, like in the TVM The Morrison Murders when he can portray that he still loves his brother even after knowing the heinous things he's done, which ironically negates all those things. Not everybody can pull that off! Good one, Derek!

(Maybe it was just that he could portray that he loves Jonathan Scarfe--LOL!)
